Strategy/Copywriting Student at Miami Ad School
When I was 5-years-old, I starred in a LeapFrog TVC, but then I ninja-kicked the director’s kid in the face, he got a bloody nose, and my involuntary break from the world of advertising began. Here’s what I did during my hiatus…
Intern→Associate at M Strategic Communications & RK Strategies in Los Angeles, USA
Acquired skill: controlling the news
Takeaway: When putting out fires, use puppet strings, not water.
Psychology major & creative writing minor at Colby College in Maine, USA
Acquired skill: recognizing patterns in human behavior, analyzing the research behind them, then using them for storytelling
Takeaway: With a bit of creativity, tension, and the right perspective, you can make someone feel emotion for just about anything.
Marketing & Communications Coordinator at EcoSwell in Lobitos, Peru
Acquired skill: changing the world
Takeaway: There’s never a lack of resources— only a lack of creative solutions.
English Language Assistant for the Ministry of Education of Spain in Cádiz, Spain
Acquired skill: engaging people who don’t want to be there with fun presentations
Takeaway: Kids will find out you speak fluent Spanish no matter how hard you try to hide it from them.
Above all, I learned that through listening, reflecting, and most importantly, asking the right questions, I can turn curiosity, my greatest asset, into a skill. And now, 20 years later, I’ve apologized to the director’s son, he gave me a nod of approval, and I’m ready to ninja-kick my way back into advertising.
